This
one has large, hairy, soft green, round
leaves with pale mauve flowers. It's a good
one for mint jellies or sauces or to add to
vegetables. Too hairy to eat raw for most
people. Hardy perennial. H 3' or more
If you enjoy coffee, take a sprig of this and
put it in the bottom of your coffee cup and
let it steep for a few moments..... Also good
finely chopped and added to chocolate sauces,
frostings or ice cream.
Grows to 1' high after about two years but
like all mints can be invasive so, if in
doubt, grow it in a pot. Forms a low mound of
tiny leaves with a creme-de-menthe flavour.
Not as hardy as other mints but lovely grown
between flag stones where the scent is
released as you brush past.
This mint is another hardy perennial with
mauve-pink flowers in summer. It has large
purple and orange tinted, dark green leaves
with a strong eau de Cologne perfume. Use in
oils, add to your bath. It is said that the
essential oil is antiseptic but toxic in
large doses and should not be used by
pregnant women.
This hardy perennial has mauve flowers in
summer and very lovely oval, variegated gold
and green leaves. Good for adding to
vegetables, salads and fruit salads and
delicious with melon.
This is a lovely plant for running your hands
through - plant near the edge of a path for
just that purpose. It isn't too vigorous and
overwhelming and its leaves are very
pretty.
